about

Beyond Wardle the road I drove here on runs under the lake. Flooded to make a reserve reserviour for Rochdale below, the track emerges on the other side flanked by ruined houses as it weaves up into the moorland leading off toward Whitworth, Walsden, Todmorden the border between Lancashire and Yorkshire is porous here. Its a single territory up this high. Up here it starts making me think of those summer visits to Oslo as a kid, the blueberries, mixed woods with pine and silver birch, the lake glistening, Manchester far below. Fran has a spot 15 minutes up the track past the abandoned houses, on the site of a departed barn, rocks someones made as a bench lookout over the whole of the urban spread of Manchester on the edge of open country, we sit to play.
